The burial

HIGHGATE CEMETERY. EASTERN CEMETERY. SWAINS LAIN.

Highgate cemetary

Under a spreading oak tree our beloved Jerry was finally laid to rest.

Psalm 121 was sung. It rained, the sun shone, the wind blew, a rainbow appeared and the birds sang.
It was a day of all weathers and a day like no other.

Beside the grave we said the Kaddish, the Hebrew prayer for the Dead.

It is not a custom in the Jewish faith to lay flowers on a grave but stones were placed to symbolise immutability of life and death.

The address:

Highgate Cemetary
Swain’s Lane.
London N6 6 PJ

Ring 0208 8340 1834  for opening hours.

It is a special historic cemetery. They do have lots of visitors to Karl Marx’s grave and they charge a small entrance fee. But this is not required for  family and friends – so explain you are visiting your friend’s grave no.  52418.

When you are there think for a moment  of  how Jerry loved the John Lennon song: “Imagine”

“Imagine all the people living life in peace
Nothing to kill or die for ,
Above us only sky,
You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one."
